Transcendental Romanticism, Piano recital with young musicians from Greece and Sweden, Grand Arsenal , 22.07 at 20:30
Come enjoy an unforgettable night of music and support young talented artists!
Talented pianists Konstantinos Papadakis, Gustav Sciacco Schantz, and Luca Gliozzi join in a partnership of contradictions, uniting north and south, Sweden, Greece and Italy, bringing together three countries with diverse and rich cultural heritage, which began in Stockholm a snowy evening and will be formalized in the warm climate of Chania.
Konstantinos Papadakis, born in Chania, is an undergraduate student at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. At the same time, he attends classes in Paris and from September he will start the third cycle of studies at the Schola Cantorum with the distinguished teacher and soloist Tamás Vesmás. At the concert, he will perform Frédéric Chopin’s Second Sonata, also known as the “Mourning Sonata”. This work is described as the darkest work of Romanticism and is particularly known for its third movement, the famous “Mourning Passage”, which has been characterized by Robert Schumann as a work full of innovation and depth of emotion. Schumann and Chopin, two major figures of Romanticism, share a deep mutual appreciation and influence on their works, with Schumann dedicating Kreisleriana to Chopin.
Gustav Sciacco Schantz, of Swedish-Italian origin, was born in Stockholm and completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Sibelius Academy in Finland. He is currently studying for a master’s degree at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He has distinguished himself in various competitions and received scholarships, proving his talent and dedication to music. In the concert he will perform Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana, a set of eight fantastic pieces written in 1838 and dedicated to Frédéric Chopin. This work reflects Schumann’s intense emotional and intellectual life, while maintaining his romantic relationship with Chopin through the dedication.
Luca Gliozzi, an Italian pianist born in Rome, began his piano career at the O. Respighi Conservatory, showing talent from a young age. He then completed an undergraduate and postgraduate program in piano performance at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, London respectively. Now, he is a student in the master’s program in conducting at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. In the concert he will perform Schubert’s last sonata, D. 960. Schubert, like Schumann and Chopin, is a central figure of Romanticism, his last sonata being one of the most important works in the piano repertoire, full of the maturity and depth of the composer’s feelings. The relationship between the three composers is evident through their deep emotional expression and innovation in their musical compositions.
The event entitled “Transcendent Romanticism” is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy three outstanding pianists representing different musical traditions and schools, uniting these three countries, but also to experience the deep musical connection between the works of Schumann, Chopin and Schubert.
