Contemporary art exhibition for the 80th anniversary of the sinking of the Tanais ship
The exhibition is organized by the Etz Hayim Synagogue, as part of the anniversary events for the 80th anniversary of the sinking of the Tanais ship, it will last from August 1 to 15, 2024, and is hosted at the former Archaeological Museum of Chania (Monastery of St. Francis of Franciscans, Halidon Street).
The contemporary art exhibition, entitled “Tanais: History as Trauma Management”, unfolds around the tragic story of the sinking of the Tanais during which the Jewish community of Crete, members of the local resistance and Italian prisoners lost their lives. of war, on June 9, 1944.
Seven international and Greek artists, through their visual methods for transmitting messages, “take us by the hand” and invite us to follow them in their own alternative approaches to the theme of the exhibition.
Participating artists: Lamprini Boviatsou, Aliki Chiotaki, Konstantin Fischer, Jason Francisco, Milan Logar, George Sfougaras, Joshua Unikel.
The exhibition is curated by Myrto Kontomitaki, Museologist and Art Historian.

The exhibition will be open to the public daily, between 12pm and 8pm. (except Tuesday).
