The concert Let Them Sound is dedicated to the memory of the tragic sinking of the ship Tanais in June 1944. Through this concert, we pay tribute to the Jewish community of Crete that was lost in this event, finding peace and inspiration through new musical creations. With carefully selected music, we reflect on and explore themes of memory and heritage, looking at them more abstractly and viscerally.

The concert includes a variety of musical media, including musical instruments, voices, electronic compositions and video art. Each media expresses a different aspect of this historical event. From delicate soundscapes to bold theatrical pieces, the program captures the essence of remembrance, love and hope.

The Let Them Sound concert features new works inspired by themes of loss and resilience, composed especially for the event by composers Yael Levy (IL/GR) and Nikos Kokolakis (GR), along with related pieces by Mikis Theodorakis, Paul Ben-Haim, Tzvi Avni, and others. These works offer a new perspective on the tragedy, inviting audiences to connect with its significance from another perspective.

The collaboration for this concert includes pianist Hagai Yodan, mezzo-soprano Reut Ventorero, composer and sound artist Nikos Kokolakis and composer and visual artist Yael Levy. Each artist contributes their unique voice to create a rich and immersive experience for the audience.

This concert marks the second successful collaboration between artistic curators and composers Yael Levy and Nikos Kokolakis and the Etz Hayyim Synagogue. Building on their previous collaboration, this event aims to deepen the connection between music, art, history and memory.

The concerts will take place at the Grand Arsenal on August 17 and 18, at 20:00 .
